Applications being processed

Here you can follow the progress of applications being processed at the Directorate of Immigration. This information is updated every two weeks, this update is from February 13, 2019.

Applications being processed by case workers

A first time applicant can expect that it may take up to 180 days from the time an application is submitted and paid for until it is processed at the Directorate. Applications for renewal are processed within 90 days from being submitted and paid for.

The processing time can be longer if an application requires further processing in order to allow evaluation of whether an applicant meets the requirements for a residence permit.

Family members of Icelandic citizens

All applications for first residence permits received prior to October 1, 2018 are being processed.

All applications for renewals received prior to December 18, 2018 are being processed.

Residence permits based on work

All applications for first residence permits received prior to November 13, 2018 are being processed.

All applications for renewals received prior to December 11, 2018 are being processed.

Permanent residence permits

All applications received prior to December 4, 2018 are being processed.

Citizenship

All applications received prior to June 4, 2018 are being processed.
