Foreigners residing in Iceland travelling abroad
Regulations on the travel of foreigners who have residence permits in Iceland, for travel in the Schengen Zone.
Citizens of countries which have signed the Schengen Treaty:
Citizens of Schengen Treaty countries, residing in Iceland and want to travel in the Schengen Zone, must be in possession of a passport or other recognized travel document during their journey.
Citizens of other countries:
Foreigners from other than the Schengen Treaty countries who have a valid residence permit in Iceland, may travel and stay in the Schengen Zone, in one or more of the treaty countries, for a total of three months in a six month period. This applies to both citizens of countries normally requiring a visa, and those not requiring visas.
Same conditions apply for minors under the age of 18.
The Icelandic permits that apply to the above are:
· Documents issued by the Directorate of Immigration (formerly the Foreign Nationals Office)
· Documents issued by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
