Instructions for applicants regarding photographs.

A foreigner who is allowed to be in Iceland when an application is submitted;

  • The applicant presents himself at the onset of the application process to an office accepting applications and must bring with him the passport/travel document which he presented when entering Iceland.
  • The applicant submits his application and supporting documents and pays a processing fee.
  • A photograph will be taken at the office accepting the application.

A foreigner who is not allowed to be in Iceland when an application is submitted;

  • The applicant will be photographed after arrival in Iceland when a permit has been granted.
  • When a residence permit has been granted, the applicant will receive a notice from the Directorate stating that the applicant should present himself in person to be photographed. The applicant must bring with him the passport/travel document which he presented when entering Iceland.

 

District Commissioners accept applications for residence permits and take photographs of the applicants.  District Commissioners in Kópavogur and Hafnarfjörður, as well as the office of the Directorate of Immigration accept applications from the greater Reykjavik area.
