Residence permits for family members of foreigners holding a residence permit for athelets

Eligible relatives are:

• Spouses, common-law spouses and registered partners;
• Dependant descendants under the age of 18;
• Dependant parents or grandparents over the age of 66.

Spouses, common-law spouses, registered partners and children under the age of 18 may be in Iceland when applying for a family reunification residence permit.

This type of residence permit does not count towards a permanent residence permit.

 Relatives can not apply for a work permit according to the Foreign Nationals' Right to Work Act No. 97/2002.
