Authorization of Applicant
If the applicant is not able to communicate directly with the Directorate, the applicant may authorize an individual residing in Iceland to be his agent in order to:
- follow up on the process of his application for a residence permit/visa;
- be handed documents from the Directorate with respect of the application for a residence permit/visa; and
- appeal a decision of the Directorate to the Ministry of Justice, if the application for a residence permit/visa is rejected.
The authorization must clearly state what the agent is allowed to do on behalf of the applicant. The applicant shall state his full name and date of birth and the place where the authorization is signed. The signature shall be witnessed, signed and dated by two witnesses. The authorization must also clearly state the full name of the agent, his id-number (kennitala), telephone number, address and e-mail address.
The Directorate’s criteria for the authorization is the following:
- the authorization must be an original document and, if applicable, translated by an accredited interpreter;
- if the original document is issued in a language other than English or one of the Scandinavian languages, it must be translated by an accredited interpreter.
