Registration for citizen outside the EEA who are family members of an EEA citizen

Eligible close relatives of EEA citizens are:

• Spouse, common-law spouse or registered partner,
• Dependant child of an EEA citizen and/or his spouse, under the age of 21,
• A dependant parent or grandparent of an EEA citizen or his spouse.

In order to be issued a residence card, the following procedure applies:

• Apply for Icelandic ID number (kennitala) at the National Registry (Þjóðskrá)
• Hand in a Registration Form and be photographed at the Directorate or any District Commissioner’s office

Please notice!

The EEA family member must be registered at the national Registry (þjóðskrá)

Along with the Registration Form, the following documents must be submitted:

• Copy of the applicant’s passport
• Documents showing purpose of stay for the person from whom the right to stay is derived.
• Proof of family relationship, as applicable:

Marriage certificate/birth certificate/death certificate/custody documents/divorce documents
