Citizens of EEA member countries
Families of EEA citizens who are nationals of countries outside the EEA.
A citizen of an EEA country may stay and work in Iceland without a permit for up to three months from his arrival in the country, or stay for up to six months if he is seeking employment. If the individual resides longer in Iceland, he shall register his right to residency with the National Registry, Þjóðskrá (This does not apply to wage earners from Romania and Bulgaria, they therefore still need to apply for work and residence permits at the Directorate). Residence in another Nordic country is not deducted from the residency period.
Citizens of countries outside the EEA who are family members of an EEA citizen shall apply for a residence card at the Directorate of Immigration within three months from their arrival in Iceland.
