Residence permits for children under the age of 18

A foreign child under the age of 18 needs to have a residence permit in Iceland, the same as an adult. It is therefore necessary to apply for a residence permit for a child under the age of 18. Please note that a child can primarily only be granted a residence permit contingent on the residence permit of a legal guardian. Therefore, custody documents/divorce documents/death certificate, as applicable, must be submitted with the application for a residence permit for a child, to prove the legal guardianship, along with other required documentation.
